Jess Rowe explains her husband's absence from the news desk

<p>Jessica Rowe has shared the reason why her husband Peter Overton has been absent from his presenting duties on the <em>9News</em> desk for the last few weeks. </p> <p>Taking to her Instagram, Rowe explained that Overton has been at home recovering from surgery and will remain on leave for another few weeks. </p> <p>“Many of you have been missing Petee from your TV screens these past couple of weeks & have asked me where he is!” the 53-year-old began in her post. </p> <p>“Well he’s at home recovering from hip replacement surgery & getting lots of TLC. Jesse Baird's mother farewells her son in emotional memorial service

<p>Slain TV presenter Jesse Baird has been farewelled by his loved ones at an emotional memorial service in Melbourne, one month after he was killed alongside his partner. </p> <p>Hundreds of friends and family packed into Melbourne’s Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre, all donning bright colours to remember the 26-year-old.</p> <p>Baird's mother Helen spoke about her "darling boy" in a tear-jerking tribute, saying, “My beautiful, generous, loving, precious, caring and talented boy, our hearts and lives are changed forever,”</p> <p>“I promise to fight for you and make you proud. My heart is broken my darling boy, and I love you more than this world."</p> <p>"Our hearts and lives are changed forever and there is less sparkle in the world. There will never be another you."</p> <p>Jesse's father Gary added, “You squeezed 100 years of life into 26 and our hearts are broken. You’ll be missed but never forgotten.” </p> <p>Kourtnee, Jesse's sister, battled through floods of tears to farewell her brother, saying, "You are the absolute light of my life. My biggest inspiration and my biggest cheerleader."</p> <p>Jesse's <em>Studio 10</em> colleagues were also in attendance, with co-host Daniel Doody saying that Baird "was more than a co-worker, he was a brother, a best mate."</p> <p>"Just like all your live on-air appearances, I wish there was more time."</p> <p>Balloons spelling out Baird’s name adorned the convention centre’s stage alongside photos of him smiling at different stages in his life.</p> <p>After the service, the large crowd gathered outside to blow a flurry of bubbles.</p> <p><em>Image credits: 7News</em></p>

AFL to tribute for Jesse Baird and Luke Davies

<p>The AFL will honour Jesse Baird and Luke Davies with a tribute to the couple before Thursday night's opening game of the season at the Sydney Cricket Ground. </p> <p>AFL CEO Andrew Dillon announced that players from Sydney Swans and Melbourne Demons, as well as the umpires will gather at 7.27pm and wear black armbands in a mark of respect for the allegedly murdered couple. </p> <p>"A tribute pre-game to both Jesse and Luke tomorrow night is a small way for us all to reflect and remember two young men during what is a very difficult time for their families and friends," Dillon said.</p> <p>"The AFL acknowledge and respect both families who are experiencing untold grief and so are particularly grateful for their support of the tribute."</p> <p>The tribute will honour the memory of Davies, who was a lifelong Swans supporter and Baird, who was an AFL goal umpire and "a popular and respected member of our AFL umpiring family". </p> <p>"Jesse developed many close friendships his umpiring career and time at the AFL," the statement read.</p> <p>"He was such a vibrant, fun-loving person, who was deeply committed to umpiring."</p> <p>Baird made his debut on the AFL umpiring list in March 2020 and was named the AFL's most promising goal umpire when he won the umpiring association's Brian Pratt Medallion two years in a row.</p> <p>When he moved to Sydney in 2023, he continued his AFL umpiring career, which spanned 62 matches including two finals. </p> <p>The couple were <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/police-officer-arrested-amid-search-for-missing-men" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allegedly murdered</a> by serving police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon in Baird’s Paddington home on February 19.</p> <p>Their <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/update-on-search-for-bodies-of-murdered-couple" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bodies </a>were discovered in a rural NSW property on February 27, over a week after they were allegedly killed. </p> <p>The senior constable has since been charged two counts of murder and remains behind bars after being denied bail. </p> <p>Following their tragic deaths, tributes have flowed in from the couple's friends, family and <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/sarah-harris-leads-tributes-to-jesse-baird" target="_blank" rel="noopener">colleagues </a>across the country.</p> <p><em>Images: AFLUA/ Facebook</em></p>

<p>Network Ten have shared a heart-wrenching tribute to former colleague Jesse Baird, whose remains were found alongside the body of his boyfriend Luke Davies. </p> <p>Sandra Sully introduced the emotional tribute to the 26-year-old, becoming teary as she remembered her slain friend, while calling on people to remember Jesse as a kind and talented young man. </p> <p>“We want to pay tribute to our friend and former colleague Jesse Baird, his murder alongside that of his partner Luke Davies has rocked Network 10. <p>Sarah Harris has shared an emotional tribute to her former <em>Studio 10</em> colleague Jesse Baird, just days after he and his partner were killed. </p> <p>Jesse, 26, and his boyfriend Luke Davies, 29, are believed to have been <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/police-officer-arrested-amid-search-for-missing-men" target="_blank" rel="noopener">killed</a> by Jesse's ex-boyfriend, NSW police officer Constable Beau Lamarre, as investigators continue their frantic search for the bodies of the two men. </p> <p>On Sunday night's episode of <em>The Project</em>, Harris shared a teary tribute to Jesse, while sending her love to Luke's family and telling viewers it had been a “really hard week” for a lot of staff at the network.</p> <p>“It is hard to talk about Jesse in the past tense because he was more than just a colleague, he was our friend … a little brother,” she told viewers through tears.</p> <p>She described Baird as an “absolute star” who was “quick on his feet whether it was water skiing or feeding a croc” live on air.</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; I told you things I’d never tell anyone. I trusted you, I’ve laughed and cried in front of you!”</p> <p>Austin said he was beyond devastated about Jesse’s death and called him a “one a million” person.</p> <p>“You cared about everyone and left such an impact on every person you met!” he said in the post.</p> <p>“I’ll love and remember you forever mate. It is an honour to be your cousin. Till we meet again.”</p> <p>Police officers are continuing to investigate the deaths of the two men, after their clothes and personal items were found in a skip bin near Baird's home in Paddington, where police established a crime scene after finding blood. </p> <p>Constable Beau Lamarre turned himself in on Friday afternoon, and has since been charged with two counts of murder. </p> <p><em>Image credits: Instagram </em></p>

"What a legend": Michael J Fox receives emotional standing ovation

<p>Michael J Fox, who has Parkinson's disease, made a surprise appearance at the BAFTA Awards in London. </p> <p><em>The Back to the Future</em> actor came onstage in a wheelchair, but he insisted on standing up at the podium to present the Best Film award. </p> <p>The star-studded audience all rose to their feet and gave the actor a standing ovation.  </p> <p>When presenting the award, Fox described cinema as "magic" which can "change your life".</p> <p>"Five films were nominated in this category tonight and all five have something in common. They are the best of what we do," he said. </p> <p>He added that films can bring people together "no matter who you are or where you're from".</p> <p>"There's a reason why they say movies are magic because movies can change your day.</p> <p>"It can change your outlook. Fox, the time-traveling heartthrob from Back to the Future, has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to his wife, Tracy Pollan, on their momentous 35th wedding anniversary. </p> <p>The 62-year-old star couldn't resist pouring his heart out, and he wrote, "35 years of [laughter], living, listening, and loving you, @tracy.pollan. Thank you for it all. Forever yours, Mike." </p> <p>Pollan, unable to contain her overflowing affection, gushed in the comments, "Love you so much!!!" Oh, the lovebirds! Just last month, he wished his beloved wife a happy 63rd birthday with an Instagram post that melted hearts worldwide. Fox and Pollan's love story started on the set of <em>Family Ties</em> in 1985, where they played love interests. Little did they know that their on-screen chemistry would spark a real-life romance. At the time, Fox was involved with Nancy McKeon, while Pollan was seeing Kevin Bacon (yes, the <em>Footloose</em> guy). Fate had different plans, though, and the couple found themselves reuniting in 1988 on the set of <em>Bright Lights, Big City</em>. Talk about a plot twist!</p> <p>Within seven months of their reunion, Fox and Pollan were engaged and soon walked down the aisle, sealing their fate as one of Hollywood's most enduring and beloved power couples. Together, they have gracefully navigated the highs and lows of marriage and are proof that true love can withstand the test of time (and maybe a little flux capacitor magic).</p> <p>Their love story expanded to include four children: Sam, 34, twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, 28, and Esmé, 21. Clearly, their love multiplied like Marty McFly's time-travelling adventures.</p> <p>But it's not just lovey-dovey romance that makes this couple shine. Fox has openly praised Pollan for being his rock during his battle with Parkinson's Disease, which began in the early '90s. He once revealed in an interview, "Tracy was just like, 'You've got a stone in your shoe. We'll do what we can until you can get it out. <p dir="ltr">Michael J Fox has shared a few rare photos of his eldest son, Sam, in a sweet birthday tribute.</p> <p dir="ltr">The <em>Back To The Future</em> actor took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a series of photos in celebration of his lookalike son’s 34th birthday.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Happy birthday to my big bouncing baby boy, you are the best. Proud to be your pops. <p>Australian author Mem Fox, best known for her iconic <em>Possum Magic </em>book, has become the latest writer caught up in Florida’s wave of book bans. </p> <p>Her 1988 release <em>Guess What?</em> is the target, facing the ban in schools throughout Duval County over allegations of “pornography” in its depictions of nudity.</p> <p>The 2022 Florida law, part of the parental rights in conservative governor Ron DeSanti’s education bill, prohibits adults from distributing on school premises any content “of a person or portion of the human body which depicts nudity or sexual conduct, sexual excitement, sexual battery, bestiality, or sadomasochistic abuse and which is harmful to minors".</p> <p>Punishment for not complying includes a third-degree felony, which can mean a prison sentence of up to five years for any individual caught. </p> <p>The book asks children to guess the identity of character Daisy O’Grady with a series of questions - all yes or no - before finally revealing that she’s actually a witch. </p> <p>Illustrations through <em>Guess What?</em> - created by illustrator Vivienne Goodman - see Daisy going about her day-to-day routine, including one key ‘problem’ activity: taking a bath. </p> <p>It’s this scene that caused the trouble for Fox, with some dubbing it “pornographic”. </p> <p>However, it isn’t the first time that<em> Guess What? </em>has come into question for its depictions - past reviews took issue with its images of dead fish in underwear as well. </p> <p><img src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/2023/05/GuessWhat_Embed.jpg" alt="" width="1280" height="720" /></p> <p>Fox doesn’t seem too concerned about the ban though, with her agent even telling <em>The Guardian </em>that “Duval County is a county of 997,000 people in Florida. It is not important."</p> <p>As Fox herself said on <em>ABC Radio</em>, “it's pitiful, isn't it? It's like, the Americans keep killing each other with guns and then they do things like this as well.</p> <p>"You just feel sorry for them, you just think, 'people, you're so unsophisticated, you're so pitiful'.”</p> <p>She went on to note that Americans had treated her well in the past, in her 100-plus visits to the country over the course of her career. </p> <p>"They were so kind to me, they were so, so good, so generous, so warm-hearted, so affirming,” she said. “I just grieve for them.”</p> <p>And when it came to the bath time scene, she was firm in her stance that it is “completely appropriate. </p> <p>"She's washing herself, she's sort of sitting in this sink, you can't see any of her private parts at all.</p> <p>"The whole book is about guessing who this person is, it turns out to be a witch in the end."</p> <p><em>Images: Getty, Facebook</em></p>

Rare sighting as famous friends step out in support of Michael J. Fox

<p>Michael J. “I’m not gonna be 80": Michael J. Fox's tragic admission

<p>Beloved actor Michael J. Fox is acknowledging how difficult his more than 30-year battle with Parkinson’s disease has become.</p> <p>“I’m not gonna be 80,” the Back to the Future star said in a preview for an upcoming episode of the American current affairs program <em>CBS Sunday Mornin</em>g, according to <em>Page Six</em>.</p> <p>In the clip, Journalist Jane Pauley tells Fox that he has “not squandered” but that his condition will eventually “make the call” as to when it’s his time to go.</p> <p>“Yeah, it’s, it’s banging on the door,” the actor said.</p> <p>“I’m not gonna lie. It’s gettin’ hard, it’s gettin’ harder. It’s gettin’ tougher. Every day it’s tougher.”</p> <p>Fox revealed that he had surgery to remove a benign tumour on his spine, but the procedure “messed up” his walking and so he started to “break” other parts of his body, including his arm, elbow, face and hand.</p> <p>He added that the “big killer” of Parkinson’s disease is “falling” and can also be “aspirating food and getting pneumonia”, pointing out that it is “all these subtle ways that gets you.”</p> <p>You don’t die from Parkinson’s. You die with Parkinson’s,” he said. “So – so I’ve been – I’ve been thinking about the mortality of it.”</p> <p>The actor was diagnosed with the brain disorder at just 29. He has since become a leading advocate for research on the condition, with the launch of the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000 to help educate the public and fund studies.</p> <p>He has previously revealed that he does not fear death.</p> <p>“I’m really blunt with people about cures. When they ask me if I will be relieved of Parkinson’s in my lifetime, I say, ‘I’m 60 years old, and science is hard. So, no,’” he admitted in an AARP magazine profile in December 2021.</p> <p>“I am genuinely a happy guy. I don’t have a morbid thought in my head — I don’t fear death. “Game-changer”: Michael J Fox shares huge medical news

<p dir="ltr">Michael J Fox has shared news of a medical breakthrough into Parkinson’s disease.</p> <p dir="ltr">The 61-year-old – who was diagnosed with the disease in 1991 – was thrilled to share the news, despite suffering a “terrible year”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Fox told <a href="https://www.statnews.com/2023/04/12/michael-j-fox-parkinsons-biomarker/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Stat News</em></a> that he had broken multiple bones after a fall, including some in his hand and face, but has said that in some ways he is “feeling better”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Despite his own personal battle, the <em>Back to the Future</em> star was overjoyed to share the breakthrough in Parkinson’s research.</p> <p dir="ltr">The study – funded by Fox’s charity organisation that aims to find a cure for Parkinson’s – found that a key Parkinson's pathology can now be identified by examining spinal fluid from living patients, allowing earlier intervention.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It’s all changed. It can be known and treated early on. It’s huge,” he said</p> <p dir="ltr">“This is the thing. This is the big reward. This is the big trophy.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The findings, published in <em>The Lancet Neurology</em>, are the result of a 1,123-person study that Fox’s foundation has put hundreds of millions of dollars into since it began in 2010.</p> <p dir="ltr">An editorial in the medical journal has also called this research “a game-changer in Parkinson’s disease diagnostics, research, and treatment trials”.</p> <p dir="ltr">In late 2022 the actor opened up about his struggle with Parkinson’s in his emotional acceptance speech for the <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/michael-j-fox-reveals-more-details-about-his-struggle-with-parkinson-s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jean Hershel Humanitarian Award</a>.</p> <p dir="ltr">In the speech he said that the hardest part “was grappling with the certainty of the diagnosis and the uncertainty of the situation,” but has since felt relieved after an “outpouring of support” from the public and his peers.</p> <p><em>Image: Frazer Harrison for Getty Images</em></p>

Jamie Foxx hospitalised

<p>Corinne Foxx, eldest daughter of American actor Jamie Foxx, has shared the news of her father’s hospitalisation.</p> <p>Taking to social media with a post on behalf of the entire Foxx family, Corinne revealed that Jamie “experienced a medical complication”, and that thanks to “quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.” </p> <p>The 29-year-old actress went on to add that the family were grateful from the thoughts and prayers of Jamie’s followers, and that they were requesting privacy during their difficult time. </p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; As recently as days before his incident, Jamie had been seen recording scenes with co-star Cameron Diaz in England. </p> <p>Cameron had previously announced her retirement from acting, but credited Jamie with getting her back on board when she signed up to star alongside him - in their third film project together - when she declared on social media that “only you [Jamie Foxx] could get me back in action. I can’t frickin’ wait it’s gonna be a blast!”</p> <p>And while rumours have swirled that Cameron intended to resume her retirement following the reported on set ‘drama’, a source stressed to<em> Page Six </em>that this was not the case. </p> <p>“When you are in a position of authority, sometimes you have to make decisions to let people go who do not share the same vision as you,” the source said, before explaining that they would be surprised to learn of any lingering tensions between the film’s two stars.  </p> <p>“Cameron is a businessperson and understands that this is necessary at times and, honestly, Jamie is the only reason that she is doing this film and they are still very close.”</p> <p><em>Images: Getty</em></p>

Back to the Future stars reunite

<p>It’s been 37 years since the cinematic masterpiece, Back to the Future part 1, graced our screens. You might be wondering where they are now, although the appropriate question would be, “when the hell are they?”</p> <p>The Back to the Future stars joined up at a fan convention in Portland, USA, and the excitement from fans sighting Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Thomas Wilson used up a lot more energy than 1.21 gigawatts.</p> <p>Last year, Fox and Lloyd came together on stage at Comic-Con in New York in an emotional display, which brought fans in the audience to tears.</p> <p>On stage, Fox said, referring to his co-star Lloyd, “The best part of the movie was working with Chris,” going on to say he was a genius, also revealing there was “immediate chemistry” between the pair.</p> <p>Fox played the iconic Marty McFly in the 1985 movie. Director Robert Zemeckis had originally cast Eric Stolz as Marty, however, due to conflict with his schedule on Family Ties, Stolz couldn’t continue with the project.</p> <p>Stolz started filming in November 1984 but was replaced by early January. Aside from the schedule conflict with Stolz, it was reported that early footage was also underwhelming. Now that’s heavy!</p> <p>Fox officially joined the production in mid-January of 1985.</p> <p>Fox played Marty McFly in all three Back to the Future movies, Great Scott!</p> <p>The fans are on a sweet nostalgia trip seeing the cast back together after over three decades.</p> <p><em>Image credit: Instagram</em></p>

Jess Rowe reveals the sneaky way she impressed Peter Overton

<p dir="ltr">Jess Rowe has shared the sneaky way she impressed her now-husband Peter Overton when they first met.</p> <p dir="ltr">The presenter and self-professed “crap housewife” sat down with Today Extra to talk about her new cookbook in collaboration with the Australian Women's Weekly, <em>Everyday Not-So-Crap Family Meals</em>, when she shared the lengths she went to in order impress the 9News presenter when they first started dating.</p> <p dir="ltr">"This was before I owned my crap housewife title, when I felt I had to be perfect," Jess said.</p> <p dir="ltr">"I think for some of us we feel like we have to have it all together all the time, so Pete was having a bit of a work dinner and he wanted to impress his 60 Minutes colleagues.”</p> <p dir="ltr">"So they came around to dinner and I thought 'what am I going to cook? I can't just serve up spag bol for something completely different.'"</p> <p dir="ltr">Rather than setting an unreasonable challenge for herself, Jess enlisted the help of her sister, a qualified chef, for the evening.</p> <p dir="ltr">"She cooked up a tagine, I still don't know what that is, but she made it for me with all of these other things," she said.</p> <p dir="ltr">"It was so delicious, but the problem was everyone thought it was so wonderful, they wanted the recipe."</p> <p dir="ltr">Jessica managed to fudge her way along telling them "a bit of this, a bit of that" when they asked what was in the meal, but they were persistent and really wanted to know how she did it.</p> <p dir="ltr">"I had to get my sister to email me the recipe the next day and I forwarded it on," she said.</p> <p dir="ltr">Now, after 19 years of marriage, the mother-of-two has improved slightly in the kitchen: enough to release <em>Everyday Not-So-Crap Family Meals</em>.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image credits: Instagram</em></p>

<p>Allegra Overton has celebrated her sweet 16th in style.</p> <p>Over the weekend, Jessica Rowe took to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CnbZ2iUJAzP/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Instagram</a> to share sweet photos of another milestone: her and Peter Overton's eldest daughter’s sweet 16th.</p> <p>“Celebrating our precious Allegra as the festival of turning 16 begins!! Just three more days until your birthday darling girl," Jess captioned.</p> <p>In the photo the mother-daughter duo are seen smiling cheek-to-cheek, with Allegra donning a pink tiara.</p> <p>The pink-themed celebration looked sweet and intimate, with beautiful pink flowers, a three-tiered cake, and a DJ.</p> <p>Jessica Rowe rocked the theme in a bright pink off-the-shoulder top, a glittery pink tulle, sparkly grey heels, and her always charming smile.</p> <p>Allegra wore a pink ruffle dress that matched the ruffles on her mother's top.</p> <p>Many have commented their birthday wishes for Allegra.</p> <p>"Let the festival begin!! Happy Sweet 16th gorgeous goddaughter," wrote Georgie Gardner, a journalist for 9News.</p> <p>"Happy sweet 16 beautiful Allegra !! auntie sends you love and hugs.
